Tanzania Vision 2025 provides direction and a philosophy for long-term development. Tanzania wants to achieve by 2025 a high quality of livelihood for its citizens. It emphasizes the importance of water availability for the citizen, and it aims to provide Universal access to clean and safe water. However the sustainable development goals especially goal number six target making sure everyone has access to clean drinking water and toilet facilities. It is obvious that the water supply system in Tanzania especially in rural communities is facing water security risks in various aspects such as scarcity and quality. According to DHS (2016) Tanzania Mainland rural households obtain their drinking water from unimproved sources.
Lack of enough and quality water affect the provision of WASH services in community and schools attendance especially for girls. Community related intervention to reduce rural water system’s susceptibility to effects of climate variability and change; environmental challenges and other human activities so as to ensure continuous enough and safe supply of water to rural communities is needed. The Organization for Community Engagement (OCE) comes up with various interventions that build capacity to community to ensure; Community (ies) protect and restore water related ecosystem by using simple local available technology. Community (ies) participate in improving water and sanitation management by using simple proven technology which use local available materials. Community (ies) use local available knowledge in solving the challenges of climate change that exacerbates water insecurity. OCE aims to enhance community’s adaptive capacity to withstand the effects of climate change.
